EVERYTHING NEW IN AUGUST

I truly can’t believe we’ve come to the end of another month in 2020. Time really does fly and I’m thankful to be here sharing everything new in August. This month has been blissful and kind to me to say the least. Mostly brought on by a new found awareness thanks to a book I’m currently reading titled “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle. I’m almost done reading it and have began sharing the knowledge I’ve gathered so far with some of my friends who have gone on to order a copy for themselves. The book focuses on ego which it describes as form (anything subject to change) and highlights how the attachment to various forms can hinder awareness. It’s definitely a life changing book which I’d recommend delving into.

One project I’m excited about which I started working on in August is recording my Album. I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember – in the kids choir, then adults choir before joining a music group in secondary school where I began seriously writing songs. So it’s been a long time coming and if this year has taught me anything, it’s to act now. Don’t wait for the perfect moment as it doesn’t exist. I mean if we’re being honest, normality as we once knew it won’t be returning. And if I couldn’t do the things I wanted to do then, then it’s fair to say I was the only one in my way. Now is just as good as any other time and I’m learning to appreciate it even more. So yes, expect some folk blues singles from me in the near future and an album to follow suit.

Another thing I’m thankful for is being able to finally attend my British citizenship ceremony which was postponed as a result of the lockdown. A journey spanning for over a decade as detailed in my Instagram post;

“As of today, I’m officially a British Citizen, having attended my citizenship ceremony this morning. It’s been circa twelve years in the making to arrive at this juncture, accompanied with tears and a slimmer wallet. But I wouldn’t change it if I could. The truth is, I wouldn’t have picked up photography 6 years ago if I didn’t face a visa transition complication. A period that left me unemployed for nearly two years, resorting me to binge watch all the reality TV shows I could get my hands on. And eventually, I stumbled upon one that would change everything. It was called “Fashion Bloggers” on E! The show featured talented ladies who were all self taught photographers that shot editorial portraits of themselves. It turns out, that was all the inspiration I needed; seeing women who were able to tell their story the way they saw it was enough for me to not pay our rent that month and instead order a camera. A decision Craig only found out about after the landlord began chasing him for the rent, oops. His reaction was “F it! We’ve got a new camera”. Then began my journey of teaching myself photography and late nights watching YouTube tutorials. And now, the rest is history, including paying off that late rent.”

New Dress (PR Product) by Sister Jane

This beautiful detailed floral dress by Needle & Thread is one of my purchases out of a couple made in August. I went for this piece because of my love for flowers which it embodies really well. No doubt this will be a piece I’ll definitely hand down to someone special.

The below vintage tray is my second purchase which I got from Etsy – my favourite place to find unique antique treasures. I got this tray as I was looking for something to complete my tea set and it does a good job of it.

Work seems to be picking up in full steam so I’ve been doing a lot of it behind the scenes. This floral red dress was part of a shoot I did for Anthropologie amongst others for feature on their social media channels. The below cotton dress is also part of a paid campaign by REVOLVE who have created a new shop on their website dedicated to cotton rich pieces. I particularly chose this piece because it reminds me of one of my all time favourite movies – “The Sound of Music”. The fabric is very reminiscent of the one used by Fräulein Maria to make some clothing for the kids when the Captain went away. You can see this dress in action as well as other 100% cotton pieces over on YouTube as I take them on a romantic journey.

I’m back to discovering new spots in Manchester which is one of my favourite things to do. The below image (dressed in Sister Jane – new PR Product) was captured on the grounds of Bramall Hall which is full of beauty and life. There’s a small bridge with a river overflowing with quacking ducks. I have visited three times already in August and I feel like I need to go back again.
