MY FILM JOURNAL

My film journal is something I hope to keep sharing on here, the first of which starts today. In August we picked up a couple of film cameras to play around with. I went for the Canon AE-1 while Craig opted for the Olympus OM-1. The cameras were considerably cheaper than our digital cameras but not so much in the long run as if we decide to stick with it, we’ll continuously need to pay for films as well as its develepment once we’re done shooting a roll.

The reason I was quite keen to get into film photography was because I feel like I’ve gotten to a comfortable place with digital photography and wanted to challenge myself a bit more. With film, you can never really tell if you’ve got the shot or not until the developed images come back. Plus, since you’re only limited by a set number of films, it means you spend more time thinking about a shot before snapping away. I felt this was the perfect way to challenge myself and perhaps improve upon my skills. So here are some images I’ve captured on my film camera since getting it, all untouched.

There’s something about film that seems to freeze moments in time better. This is why I tried to use it to capture some of my adventures. These shots were taken while we were on holiday in Bari for a few days.

Then came London Fashion Week. And I only remember my film camera at the very end. Nonetheless, I still managed to capture a couple of images.

I’d say so far, I’m more drawn to the black and white films. This shot was taken while having lunch in New York in September.

We recently discovered The East Lancashire Railway. It was a time capsule that needed to be captured in film and the staff were very much pleased to pose for some shots.

Off course we had to visit one of our favourite spots to hang out in – The Manchester Transport Museum.

Then came Samio’s hen do in Halifax where we stayed in a lovely victorian home and had a great time. It was hard not to capture the bride to be at the time in this stunning vintage piece.
