CHAPTER THIRTY THREE

It’s my birthday today and I couldn’t be more pleased to turn the page to chapter thirty three while watching Grace and Frankie. My latest Netflix discovery. I was on season 4 episode 4 when the clock hit midnight. The episode showed Grace baring all in the hopes to ward off the younger gentleman she was dating. As she took off her false lashes, hair clips and wiped her makeup off, she made him aware she was growing old and so was her body.

I’ve never been one to shy away from disclosing my age. If anything, I’m not afraid to grow old. The more I live and experience life, the more I can appreciate everything it brings with it.

Eleven years ago to the date, I caught a plane to London. It was my 22nd birthday. It would mark my big move to the UK. At the time, I was pretty positive that the grass was always greener on the other side but little did I know that the grass is actually what you make of it no matter where you happen to find yourself. A lesson I’d come to learn with time. If you nourish the grass, it’ll flourish. If you neglect the grass, it will dissipate eventually. And the same could be implied metaphorically.

I find it quite apt to have only just discovered Grace and Frankie. I love how they’ve made the most of their circumstance while navigating life as they age. So far, the lessons I’ve taken from it are; have a good support system, it’s never too late to go after your dreams, and it’s okay to ask for help every now and again. Lessons that could pretty my apply to anyone no matter your chapter in life.

Of course the younger guy who Grace was seeing accepted the reality of her life. But even if he didn’t, she was strong enough and prepared to move on from it.

Dare I say I’m looking forward to the many years ahead. Gratitude has allowed me to appreciate the years thus spent. Come what may, I’ll do my best to make the most of it. With that, I’d like to say a hearty cheers to this new chapter in the hopes of many more wonderful chapters to come.
