MY CREATIVE UTOPIA

My creative utopia is often something I think about. This is because I’m very well aware of all the elements that need to come together to help create my envisioned imagery. A historical setting accompanied with flattering lighting, an outfit which screams “DRAMA”, an inspired team and some good music to create the mood.

Truth be told, I seldom experience my creative utopia as everything doesn’t always seem to come together. This, I don’t mind. This is because merely becoming aware of it allows me to make do with the tools I have at my disposal while considering all the elements that would improve the image.

I set a daily goal for myself to at the very least shoot one image. I know a lot of folks tend to cram a few shoots into one day because they don’t have the time to shoot on a daily basis and in some instances higher a photographer so they try to make the most of it. I find that this approach doesn’t quite work for me.

I want to be able to explore creatively. This means I can focus on one look (or image as the case may be) a day. I’m not looking at just getting an image out of it but one that I’m happy to put my name to.

I usually have an idea in mind on what and where I plan to shoot. But sometimes, it doesn’t always come together. This, I also don’t mind as it pushes me to think outside the box. This means I’ll have to keep trying different angles or other locations and in some instances starting from scratch and changing the entire plan.

You could say that knowing my creative utopia has allowed me to have creative focus which didn’t happen over night. It took a lot of practice and consistency to eventually get to this point. I find that every time I think I’ve figured something out, I’m blown away but something new. To that effect, I’m very willing to evolve and grow especially in my creative space because the possibilities remain endless, creative utopia or not.
