SPOTLIGHT ON WOMEN FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH

by Chichi Morris

Femininity is power.

“If you were a flower, I’d pick you.”

This sentiment is shared by many when reflecting on the importance of the women in their lives. Those who bring value, earn every petal of the enormous bouquets they receive for their excellence and verve.

The month of March is one to honour women in all their roles and adorn them with the accolades they deserve, for all the enthusiasm, complex and intelligent work, but especially for their presence and soothing feminine energy, one the world desperately needs to blossom.

This ever-influential soft, yet ever-solid feminine energy is the yang to the yin of masculine energy, providing the much-needed balance in the world.

The Movement

We will be shouting from the mountain peak about the grounds women have gained as we celebrate March as Women’s Month.

Firstly, let us reflect on how far women have come in society. Women have made significant strides in the last century, working tirelessly to secure equal rights, freedoms, and opportunities. Unsurprisingly, women have been instrumental in shaping the world as we know it today.

Historically, women have not been given their due and acknowledged as equal citizens, lacking many of the same rights and privileges as their male counterparts. However, through enthusiastic activism, women have pushed for change, fighting for their right to vote, work, and be treated equally. Despite facing opposition and adversity, women have persisted and made significant progress toward gender parity.

Today, women hold critical roles in every aspect of society. They are scientists, doctors, politicians, CEOs, influencers, and entrepreneurs. They serve as leaders in their communities and are active contributors to the economy. Women’s political representation is also increasing, with more female leaders elected than ever before.

IWD

International Women’s Day offers an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of women worldwide. It’s a day to recognize the progress made toward gender equality while acknowledging there is still much work to be done. We #EmbraceEquality and challenge biases, stereotypes, and the inaccurate notion that women are not entirely up to par with the male gender.

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day offers an opportunity to express gratitude and appreciation for the selfless love and care that mothers provide. It’s a time to reflect on the importance of motherhood and mothers’ critical role in our lives. Mothers play a crucial role in shaping our lives, providing emotional support, nurturing, and care from the time we are born until adulthood. They are often the primary caregivers who provide us with the first sense of security, love, and compassion.

Mothers are partly responsible for instilling values, teaching us right from wrong, and guiding us to become the best versions of ourselves. They also make countless sacrifices, sometimes putting their needs and desires aside to ensure that we have everything we need to succeed in life.

In our society, mothers are regarded as the backbone of the family, they are the torch that shines ever-bright, and their importance cannot be overstated. They are the spring that provides fresh waters, to rejuvenate the soul and quench the thirst for connection. Even when children grow up and become adults, most mothers remain an unwavering source of emotional support, wisdom, and guidance.

My motherhood journey embodies the aforementioned statements, and I wear this ‘mother’ cloak with pride and great responsibility; one where the weight of the success of my children partly rests heavily on my shoulders. I carry out this divine assignment with diligence, softness and precision, allowing my self time for self-care, the grace needed when I falter, and many nights researching the next best study on how to ensure my final products are wholesome. This is my method for success, and weathering the occasional turbulent weather.

A mother’s love is akin to an umbrella, it protects and in the same breath, it nurtures.

March Focus on Women’s Health

Women battle many challenges, and one of them is the health condition named Endometriosis, where some women experience excruciating pain due to this condition. The month of March shines a beaming light on this ailment and the fight for better, more effective care for ‘Endo Warriors.’

The day aims to raise awareness of the disease’s impact on women’s lives, promote early diagnosis, and encourage research into finding effective treatments and a cure. Endometriosis Awareness Day is also an opportunity for those affected by the disease to share their experiences, raise their voices, and advocate for better support and treatment.

The theme for Endometriosis Awareness Day 2023 is “Stepping up efforts to combat infertility and Endometriosis,” emphasising the need for solidarity and support among those affected by Endometriosis. Through events, social media campaigns, and educational initiatives, Endometriosis Awareness Day is crucial in improving the lives of women with Endometriosis and ending the stigma surrounding the disease.

In conclusion, women are an important part of society, and their contributions should be acknowledged and celebrated. Their hard work, dedication, and love should be praised worldwide. Furthermore, their struggles and pain should be recognised, and effective solutions to soothe these should be proffered as a matter of urgency.

Our hearts should beat for and cherish all women and mothers, showing our appreciation not just on specific days, but every day for all they do for us. We should continue supporting and amplifying the voices of women around the globe; they are the secret sauce to all the beauty we see.

Femininity is power and women are taking what they are due.
