Nature is one of the many things that inspire me, which is why when The Joy of Plants offered to help transform my space with some lovely houseplants, I gladly accepted. A few months ago I had the opportunity to enjoy a stay in one of their jungle hotel suites and it was indeed a wonderful experience. Now I’m happy to have my own space at home which allows me to be inspired by nature.
Thanks to my mum’s gardening skills and love for nature, I grew up surrounded by houseplants and beautiful flowers. You’d find Sansevierias in huge red clay pots around our living room. Like The Joy of Plants, my mum understood the benefits of being surrounded by houseplants some of which I’m already benefiting from.
The Joy of Plants were able to see my space and suggest plants that would be well suited for it. It didn’t take long for my houseplants to arrive.
Amongst my selection of houseplants were a couple of newly discovered flowering plants and others which I was very familiar with having had houseplants of my own. The pineapple is one of my favourite as anyone who knows me well knows my love for pineapple juice. The cactus very much reminds me of the desert heat which is something I enjoy as I thrive in sunshine. Rest assured, the Sansevieria will be added to the collection for a little slice of home.
So far, being surrounded by my houseplants helps me work better. I feel very much inspired and relaxed in this space. The air feels so much cleaner and I find myself going into my transformed space to take deep breaths. This helps kick start my day which is no surprise as houseplants are known to help deter illness and boost healing.
My drawing room now feels like a sanctuary. You’ll find me there every now and again just sitting still. I can’t help but be positive in this space. The whole process has encouraged me to look into introducing houseplants in other areas of my home.
