One of my goals this year is to explore more on the UK. It’s very easy to want to chase sunshine and palm trees after seeing beautiful travel pictures on Instagram. But if there’s one thing I’ve come to learn over the years, it’s to appreciate what you’ve already got and work with it. And after experiencing what would seem to be a trying week, we decided to pack our bags for a long weekend in Edinburgh.
We arrived the city with plans of exploration but quickly failed on that note. Partly because the weather wouldn’t allow for it and mostly because our hotel was ever so cosy. Leaving our bed became a real struggle.
We stayed at The Dustane Houses. Where we arrived to fresh homemade Scottish short bread and a very homely room. We wasted no time settling in. We managed to go for a walk on the first night to get a feel of the city which was really beautiful even at night. Upon our return with full stomachs, we laid in bed re-watching Game of Thrones. It felt like it was meant to be especially given all the historical building we were surrounded by.
We fell into the trap of having food at the hotel after trying the breakfast. Oh my! Scottish breakfast is officially the best breakfast I’ve ever had. I couldn’t get enough of it. It was the highlight of our trip. The hotel menu was reasonably priced so we enjoyed lunch and dinner there. The portions were huge and the taste didn’t disappoint. We struggled to leave thanks to how quickly we settled in. We got to meet the owner of the hotel who lives right next to it and was kind enough to show us his car collection.
On our final day, we decided at the very least to visit the famous Edinburgh Castle. We walked the grounds and took some pictures before wandering the streets and stopping to enjoy some good ole fish and chips. We discovered a clothing brand that makes one of the best tailored pieces I’ve ever come across. I tried on some suits and they fit perfectly. Another highlight of our trip.
Our long weekend in Edinburgh wasn’t quite the exploration we had hoped it would be but it was indeed worth the journey. We always get caught up in making sure we see everything that is to see when we travel. So it felt good to take it slow and really enjoy our time together. In the end, we felt very well rested and refreshed. I look forward to visiting Edinburgh again, perhaps for the exploration we had planned.
