I’ve come to fall in love with hats over the past year. It used to be an accessory I never really took much interest in. I had two hats stored away in my closet that I never even remembered I owned only when I came across them every now and again while trying to rearrange my wardrobe. They were dull and nothing special as far as I was concerned which probably was the reason why they never saw the light of day. That’s pretty much what happens when you buy something only for the sake of having it. The good news is that I managed to give the hats away. Hopefully the new own can put them to better use than I did. I always tend to make the most of the pieces I own. So I told myself, if I’m to buy another hat, it’ll have to be something I should naturally remember to pair with an outfit every so often.
Deciding on what hat to buy was only possible when I had an idea of what my style really is. I’m a strong believer of your personal style reflecting your personality as an individual. Being an introvert, I tend to have a lot of conversations with my inner self if there’s any such thing. These conversations tend to be very loud and clear which then translate into my work as a creative. Hence my choice of style. I had a pretty good idea of what hat would do. I knew it would speak to me when I found it. One of the main features I was after was structure. I’m not one to bend easily from external influence so something somewhat rigid was a given. It was never going to be plain. How else can it match my rings? lol. The fedora hat was a good place for me to start while browsing online. It didn’t take long to find what I was looking for. The hat with the coin details gave me that juju vibes which is very much part of my african heritage. Great for when I’ve had an extra loud inner conversation. The hat with the studs was perfect for the minimalist look when inner conversations are low which tends to happen on a number of occasions. I must say that considering my personality before making these purchases paid off as I always look forward to throwing them on. So the next time you decide you want to buy a hat, make sure you get one that matches all of you.***If you want to edit like me, you can! Grab a copy of my eBook here.***
